Strawberry Blueberry Smoothie Recipe

You cant go wrong with berries of any kind – mix them up with yoghurt and milk and that’s heaven in a glass.

Strawberries, with their bright color and juicy texture, have a nice tart flavour, while under the silvery-blue skin of a blueberry hides a light sweet juice.

As a group berries are all good to excellent sources of vitamin C. Their blue and red pigments are powerful antioxidants that can neutralise bad bacteria. Go you berries.

Recipe Take One What you need:

  • 2 cups of strawberries
  • 1 cup of blueberries
  • 1 cup of milk – soy, nut, dairy whatever you prefer
  • 1 cup of low fat yogurt

Serves two

Make this smoothie:

  1. First add the liquid then the fruit to the blender.
  2. Blend for 30 seconds to a minute – depending on the power of your machine – until it is looking smooth and delicious. Remember to start at a slow speed, to get things moving, before slowly turning it up to full speed. Of course if you have pre-programmed smoothie cycle on your blender use that instead.
  3. Pour and enjoy straight away.

Recipe Take Two What you need:

  • 1 cup of strawberries
  • 1 cup of blueberries
  • 1 cup of pineapple
  • 1 cup of milk – soy, nut, dairy
  • A handful of ice cubes

Serves two

Make this smoothie:

  1. Add the milk to the blender first, followed by the fruit and then the ice.
  2. Follow steps 2 and 3 above.

Use can use frozen or fresh berries, whatever you have available. And always experiment, add a banana if you like a more creamy smoothie. Maybe a pinch of cinnamon to spice it up – raspberries, mulberries in the fridge awesome add them too.

Tips:

When picking strawberries and blueberries make sure they’re not soft and overripe. Always check the base of the punnet for mould or moisture.
