Our recipe is a healthy take on the Chocolate Banana Smoothie. Forget the ice cream and sugary ingredients you can find in some recipes, we are using raw cacao powder and plain yoghurt.

Cacao powder is made by cold pressing unroasted cocoa beans, it has a rich flavour and is packed with flavinoids, antioxidants and essential minerals. Add to that the bananas in this recipe which are high in fiber, folate, vitamin C and rich in potassium and this is a power-packing glass of goodness.

Enjoy. Love to hear what you think in the comments below.

What you need:

  • 1 cup dairy, nut or soy milk
  • 2 bananas
  • 2 cups of plain yoghurt
  • 3 tablespoons of finely chopped dark chocolate or raw cacao powder (for a healthy version)
  • A pinch of salt
  • 1 cup of ice

Serves two

Make this smoothie:

  1. Place all the ingredients in your blender add the ice last. Blend for about 30 seconds to a minute – the exact time will depend on the blender’s power. Always start at a slow speed, to get the liquid and greens moving, before gradually increasing to full speed.
  2. Pour and enjoy immediately.

Experimenting with smoothie recipes is lots of fun and it’s pretty hard to go wrong. With this one you could try adding half a teaspoon of nutmeg or cinnamon, a teaspoon of chia seeds or you add a handful of berries for some extra zing.
